It will be felt by the members of the Church of England throughout the whole Diocese of Melbourne, to be a cause for great thankfulness, that God has in his good providence, brought safely to these shores within the last two months two additional clergymen to labour in this portion of his vineyard.
The Rev. William Singleton, A.M. Trinity College Dublin arrived by the "Tasman," and is now settled in his appointed station at Kilmore; and the Rev. Septimus Lloyd Chase, M.A., of Emmanuel College, Cambridge by the "Senator." The latter gentleman is at present in Melbourne, but his arrival has enabled the Rev. Augustus Strong to go on a missionary tour to the Wannon River.
The Rev. Henry William Wilkinson Liddiard, A.M., also of Trinity College, Dublin, who arrived by the "Nelson" is likely to reside for some time in the Diocese, and has expressed his readiness to render his brethern any assistance, which may be in his power.
While this increase in the number of the servants of our divine master fills our hearts with joy at the prospect of increased religious privileges; it ought to be regarded by every sincere Christian as a serious call to greater exertion and self-denial in the cause of the Gospel, that we may not be accounted by the Lord unworthy to enjoy a continuance of the blessings, both spiritual and temporal, which in his goodness he has hitherto so bountifully bestowed upon us.
